That means when they give you their details your auto responder will be set to send out an email link which they must click on to confirm that they want to join your mailing list.

 That way, people won’t feel trapped into your list building. You won’t lose many people by them not clicking on the link in the email and it will be worth it for the security you offer the people that do agree to join your mailing list.
